WE HAVE MADE A COMENIUS GARDEN

0 comentarios
We have made a beautiful comenius garden in our school. First employers of  the Town hall came to help us to prepare the land.

Later childrem have planted, watered an took care of it,

They have understood that it´s so laborious to keep a natural space. They made a big effort and they also enjoyed a lot.

Thank you very much to "VIVEROS SÁNCHEZ" to give all the plants we needed to make this beautiful garden. Actually economic difficulties would have made impossible to do it.

A BEAUTIFUL PROJECT MADE BY CARLOS HOMBRADOS, PAULA MELGUIZO Y MARINA DE LA FUENTE FROM YEAR 6 ABOUT HOW WE MUST RESPECT THE NATURAL PARKS.

José Angel Sastre is the director of the north range of mountains and in the ravine of the dulce river in Guadalajara. He came to Ocejon school to explain to our students the laws we have in our country that protect the Natural parks.

Protection laws of nature parks follow the European guidelines.

In Spain the authorities, governments and institutions make a great effort to care  for our environment.

We hope  the visit to our center of an important person who works daily in protecting natural areas makes in  our students to have a deeper awareness in  protecting the environment.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO THE DELEGATION OF AGRICULTURE FOR COOPERATING WITH US.

IMAGES OF THE EARTH TAKEN FROM A SATELLITE
·       An unique collection of images of the Earth mainly provided by the United States Geological Survey (U.S.G.S.) and Partners of the Spanish Association of Remote Sensing (A.E.T.)
·       Remote Sensing is a tool of territorial information. A scientist taught us how satellites observe the Earth crust, how they take the photographs, how the images taken from outer space are registered, visualized and interpreted. She also explained how the Remote Sensing technique needs to be integrated in the Management and conservation of natural resources.
·       It consisted of 90x90 cm. photographs which were explained to us by a scientist: their situation and the distance each picture was taken from.
·       The exhibition included 2 panels about what  Remote Sensing satellites are and their existing applications.
There was also a projection of an audiovisual presentation on Remote Sensing.

On the 22 of November   the boys and girls from 5º went to a trip that was about the trees.
They told us how we can count the years of the trees:  If we cut a slice of a trunk of a tree, we can see some rings that are dark and others that are light. The dark ones are the years that rained a lot and the light ones are the years that didn´t rain much. They also asked us what we can find in a forest, in a mountain… They also told us about the different layers of the soil, about how the earth worms fertilize the soil producing a kind of compost. We also learned that earth worms can eat up to 8 kilos of soil in all their lives and how long they could be(about 15 centimetres long). Then they showed us the library where we could see many kinds of trees and also what they made with them; bowls and cups, arrows and bows...
I think it was very interesting and everybody enjoyed it a lot.

Our visit to the Hayedo de Cantalojas (Guadalajara)
October 2011

Year 6 went to the Hayedo de Cantalojas last October. Hayedo means” beech forest”, and it is full of beech trees that share the ecosystem with some other types of trees, such as oaks, yews, pine trees and several types of bushes and grasses.

EXTENSION
Its total area is 1641 hectares of land, consisting of slate and quartzite. Its soil has few nutrients but it is rich in decomposing matter.

HABITATS:
Within the Park there is a variety of habitats, rocky, forested and grassland surrounded by rivers and streams.
This is a bridge that crosses a small stream of the river Lillas. There is another small river called river Zarzas. Both were almost dry because it didn´t rain for FIVE MONTHS!!!

We saw lots of beech trees, but you can also find pine trees, yews and birch trees.
The most beautiful tree we saw was this one, which is called the yew. Our teacher explained that scientists are investigating this tree in order to make a medicine to cure some types of cancer.
This is a small yew.

Salud, our guide, showed us a parasite that lives in the wild rose bush. It is a worm that nests here because it wants the protection of the spines.

Besides being in the middle of October, this year autumn has been lazy and the leaves of the beech trees were still green, though some of them were orange or red.
Our guide, Salud, was waiting for us when we arrived after two hours´ drive along the northwest landscape of our region.

In the area of rocks, there is a reptile found in great quantity, “the Darkgreen Lizard”

In the forest, we saw many birds, but we liked a hawk best. There are some others, for example eagles, chickadees, Titmice, finches…. We did not find any mammals, except a deer, but there are dormices, weasels, wild cats, wild boars, and nine species of bats. Sometimes, you can see otters playing in the water or building dams.
Among the shrubs we distinguished the heather, the  blueberry, the juniper and the  wild rose.

This bush is a wild rose and we studied its fruits which are small and red. They have little seeds inside which are like the seeds of the tomatoes. People use them since long time ago to prepare beverages.

We saw many mushrooms, though it was dry, but we could not see the most wanted: the boletus. It is an edible one, but it is forbidden to take outside the park.
Its climate is very rainy and wet, which is strange in the center of the Iberian Peninsula, so we say it has a “microclimate”.
Summers are mild and cool.
Winters are hard and cold, with frequent snowfall.

In Guadalajara, we have the best honey in Spain. Those are bee-hives. They were empty.
We had a very hot day with a temperature of 35ºC.
WE had a lovely day in the country. The park was lovely.
